I’ve not posted in a while, and in spirit of Friday’s royal wedding I thought I’d do a post on royal baby names. I’ll do names from the Royal family in England and names that have royal themed meanings.
The British Royal Family;
Henry
-Henry comes from a German name meaning “ruler of the home“. It is #71 on the SSA list for 2009. Prince Harry’s full name is Prince Henry of Wales.
Charles
-Charles is another German name meaning “free man“. It its fairly common and #64 on the SSA list. Prince Charles of Wales is the Queen’s son, and the father of Prince Harry and Prince William.
William
-William is an English name meaning “strong willed warrior”. It is very popular and at #5 on the SSA list for 2009. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge is the Queen’s eldest grandson and second in line in succession to the British throne.
Edward
-Edward is another English name meaning “wealthy guardian“. It is #137 on the SSA list. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex is the Queen’s youngest son.
Catherine
-Catherine is a Greek name meaning “pure“. It is #177 on the SSA list. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is Prince William’s wife.
Margaret
-Margaret is an English name meaning “pearl“. It is #187 on the SSA list. Princess Margaret is the deceased sister of Queen Elizabeth II.
Eugenie
-Eugénie is a French name meaning “well born“. It is not on the SSA list. Princess Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew.
Diana
-Diana is a Greek name meaning “divine“. It is ranked #165 on the SSA list. Princess Diana is the deceased ex-wife of Prince Charles and the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry.
